Mobile detailing hose reel selector

Choose and screen a mobile detailing hose reel using the exact service, hose capacity, working pressure, fittings, installation dimensions and wet installed mass.

Start with the exact hose and machine requirement. The reel must be rated for that service and pressure, publish capacity for that hose diameter, fit the installation envelope and remain inside the mobile payload plan.

Line requirement

Switch the displayed inputs and results without changing the underlying calculation.
Low-pressure water, high-pressure washer hose and compressed air are separate applications.
Use the exact current manuals or manufacturer specifications—not a visually similar reel listing.
The mount, packed dimensions, pull direction and travel restraint all change with the working location.
Choose only a mechanism with current instructions for the intended mounting and service.
m
Measure from the planned reel position to the furthest normal working point.
m
Add only hose that must be stored on this reel; record separate leader hoses separately where appropriate.
%
A transparent spare-capacity allowance above the measured route—not permission to exceed the reel table.
bar
Use the maximum working pressure defined by the exact system evidence, not ordinary operating pressure alone.
mm
Bore affects flow and must match the reel and machine requirement.
mm
Published reel capacity depends on the actual outer diameter as well as length.

Candidate reel screen

Record the current exact-model manual, specification and installation drawing.
Confirm the reel, swivel and fluid path are approved for the selected water, pressure-wash or air service.
Use a table or drawing that states capacity for this hose ID and OD—not another diameter.
Record every thread, material, leader hose and adapter in the pressure or flow path.
m
Enter only the capacity published for the exact hose ID and OD above.
bar
Use the lowest applicable rating across the reel, swivel and included pressure path.
kg
Use the manufacturer figure without the installed working hose unless stated otherwise.
kg
Use the hose manufacturer figure for the planned installed length.
kg
Include the reel, hose, retained liquid, brackets and fasteners in the complete vehicle payload model.

Installation envelope

cm
Use the widest installed dimension including crank, swivel or guards.
cm
Keep clearance for pulling, rewinding, service and adjacent equipment.
cm
Use the complete installed height, not only the drum diameter.
cm
Check doors, shelves, roof structure and the full rewind path.
cm
Include frame, handle, inlet, outlet and the required bend radius.
cm
Leave service space and keep emergency shut-offs and filters reachable.

Hose-reel direction

Record the hose and machine requirement first

Still needed: the current machine and hose requirements and a measured working reach and the maximum working pressure of the complete line and the hose inner diameter and the hose outer diameter

A reel that physically holds a hose can still have the wrong pressure rating, fluid path, swivel, connector or capacity for that exact hose. Record the complete line before comparing products.

A pass means only that the entered current evidence and figures clear this screen. It does not approve the mounting structure, hose, pressure system, vehicle load, installation or product.
  1. 01

Record the exact hose inner diameter, outer diameter, working reach and complete-system maximum pressure from current evidence.

  2. 02

Use the capacity table for the exact hose size. A reel may hold more length of a smaller hose and materially less of a larger one.

  3. 03

The reel body, swivel, shaft, leader hose and every fitting must be rated for the selected fluid or air service, pressure and temperature.

  4. 04

Confirm all thread and connector standards in writing. Similar-looking fittings are not evidence of compatibility or pressure rating.

  5. 05

Confirm the crank, brake or drag arrangement holds the hose during transport and controlled rewind without trapping hands or damaging the hose.

  6. 06

Use a competent vehicle or trailer installer to verify the mounting structure, fasteners, pull direction, load restraint and service access.

  7. 07

Count the reel, hose, retained liquid, brackets and fasteners in payload and axle calculations; inspect the restraint before travel.

  8. 08

Depressurise, isolate and drain only as the exact machine and reel instructions require. Inspect hose, swivel, fittings, frame and restraint on a documented schedule.

Three different fluid paths

Choose the service before the reel.

A low-pressure supply hose, pressure-washer outlet hose and compressed-air line can look similar while needing materially different bodies, swivels, leaders, seals, fittings and ratings. This tool keeps those shortlists separate.

01Record the complete line

Service, exact hose ID and OD, measured reach and maximum pressure.

02Build the capacity target

Working reach plus connection allowance and a stated reserve.

03Screen an exact reel

Application, capacity table, pressure, fittings, dimensions and mass.

04Verify the installation

Structure, restraint, service access, payload and safe deployment.

Mobile installation

A mounted reel becomes part of the vehicle.

Count the reel, full hose, retained liquid, brackets and fasteners. Check the available envelope with the handle, swivel, guards and bend radius included—not only the drum. The calculator exposes an entered conflict; it cannot approve a mount.

Continue with the van layout planner, then add the installed system to the payload checker. For a water line, compare the delivery path in the tank-to-washer checker.

Current-source boundary

Capacity belongs to a hose size and a model.

These official references show why working pressure, exact hose dimensions, model capacity, installation and load restraint must be checked separately. They are examples and safety boundaries—not endorsements or universal compatibility claims.

Questions before checkout

Mobile detailing hose-reel questions

What hose reel do I need for mobile detailing?

First separate the service: low-pressure water supply, pressure-washer outlet or compressed air. Then record the exact hose inner and outer diameter, working reach and complete-line maximum pressure. Compare only reels whose current specification covers that application and exact hose size.

Can I use a garden hose reel for a pressure washer?

Do not infer suitability from appearance or capacity. A pressure-washer outlet reel, swivel, leader hose and fittings form part of a high-pressure path and need current ratings for that service, pressure, temperature, connectors and exact hose.

How much hose should a mobile detailing reel hold?

Measure from the planned reel position to the furthest normal working point, add the hose that must remain on the reel for routing and connections, then state a transparent reserve. Confirm that the manufacturer publishes at least that capacity for the exact hose outer diameter.

Is a manual or retractable hose reel better for a detailing van?

Neither format is automatically better. Compare working position, pull direction, packed size, service access, travel restraint and the manufacturer instructions. A spring-return reel adds its own installation, inspection and maintenance requirements.

Where should a hose reel be mounted in a detailing van?

Mock the complete layout before drilling. The position needs safe hose deployment, controlled rewind, access to filters and shut-offs, structural mounting and travel restraint. A competent installer should verify the structure, fasteners and load path.

Does water left in a hose affect van payload?

Yes. Water has mass, so this calculator estimates the liquid held by the planned hose bore and length. Add that to the reel, dry hose, brackets and fasteners in the complete payload and axle calculation.

Can I enter feet, inches, psi and pounds?

Yes. The unit switch converts displayed US customary inputs to a single metric calculation basis. Always compare the converted result with the exact regional product specification and local vehicle or workplace rules.
